PROJECTS/PROGRAMS
ARTS & CRAFTS FAIR: This fair has generally been held annually in May; however, dates remain flexible as needed. Various vendors purchase space and sell their wares to many interested community customers. This event greatly helps to fund our charitable projects. Chairperson: Susan Capistrant
BUCK-A-BOOK: Members donate books or purchase books for $1 each at monthly meetings. The profits fund our contributions to Schools for Africa and World Fellowship. Chairperson: Susan Capistrant
GRANTS-IN-AID: Grants up to $500 are available to any Washoe County School District staff member, certified or classified, who would like monetary assistance for an activity that will directly benefit students. Application instructions are available through Marianne Reger, Grant Writer, at the Washoe County School District or on our chapter website listed under Forms. Chairperson: Ardynne Sprinkle
SCHOOLS FOR AFRICA: 13 countries in sub-Saharan Africa have accessed funds from this program for basic education for children with a focus on girls, orphans, and other vulnerable youngsters. Since 2010, DKG has donated over $300,000 for projects such as improving school buildings and equipment; sending books, pens, proper furniture, and sports materials; educating children about good hygiene, HIV prevention, sanitation, immunizations, and scholarships; and training teachers for quality education and basic life skills. Theta is one of many chapters that contribute annually to this international effort to improve education in impoverished countries.
WORLD FELLOWSHIP: DKG awards scholarships to women studying for a master’s or doctorate degree at an approved university in the United States or Canada. Theta along with many other chapters contributes annually to help colleagues further their graduate studies.
