Susan Capistrant has been a Theta Chapter member since 2007. She has served as Chapter Treasurer since 2008, Nevada State 2nd Vice President (2015-17) and Nevada State President (2017-19).
For many years Susan has administered our Buck-A-Book Program whereby members donate books they have read and purchase books at $1 each for their own enjoyment with the funds being deposited into Theta’s treasury for contributions to World Fellowship, Schools for Africa, and DKG’s International Emergency Fund. To keep the books interesting for everyone, Susan is constantly introducing new books for all the varied tastes.
Since 2014, when Susan established our annual Arts and Crafts Fair, she has served as chair of this event which has been our principal fundraiser, providing funding for several educational mini grants locally. Due to the COVID19 pandemic in 2020, the Arts and Crafts Fair was cancelled. However, Susan has already planned another event for spring of 2021.
Following a very successful nursing career, Susan became a medical instructor at Morrison College (before it closed in 2014) and later was employed as a medical instructor at the Career College of Northern Nevada. In recent years, she has been concentrating on her doctoral studies through Capella University. Susan particularly enjoyed learning how adults learn which is so different from how children learn.
Meanwhile, she has been an Advocate for the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Program assisting individuals as needed, working directly with the Crisis Line in Carson City, and teaching CPR classes through REMSA in Reno/Sparks. If you have a diagnosis you do not understand, Susan is great at explaining it in layman’s terms.
Theta Chapter congratulates Susan on her outstanding achievement as a student in pursuing higher education herself and then as an educator in continuing to share her skills and knowledge with others following in her profession. Let us raise our glasses in a toast to Dr. Susan Capistrant. Susan’s Theta sisters wish her every success and happiness as she pursues her future goals.
